Default Upgrade to Z06 exaust?

Hello All! New Member.....First Post! I'm thinking of buying a zo6 exaust for my 97 C5. Just wanted opinions on this if you guys would do it. The main reason is looks and reduced weight. I think it will sound a little better too....
Thanks, Ed

Ed, I think that sounds like a good idea! Its one that I seriously considered a couple of weeks ago myself. The titanium exhaust was really appealing to me because of the weight savings but in the end I wound up going with Corsas, simply because I wanted a little more "sound" than what the stock Z06 Ti system was going to give me. The titanium also will darken over time which looks kinda strange to me. I also like the various polished tips the aftermarket provides as well. Anyway, thats my two cents and go with what YOU like. Hopefully you can find a good deal on a Ti setup out there! By the way welcome to the forum!!! :yesnod: Eric

I put it on my car 6 months ago.
It is a little louder with good sound
and the weight savings is impressive.
No problems with "darkening"

Hi Ed;

I did just that to my 2002. Bought a Z06 exhaust set taken off at 3000 miles; bolted right up. Not only lighter, but the mufflers internals are free'r flowing.

Mike,

How much could I expect to spend on upgrading my exhaust to the ZO6's (parts and labor). I will need to have a tuner install them as I am lame when it comes to this stuff.

Thanks

I bought my used low-mileage set for $500. Then once on a lift, I changed them out myself in about 35 minutes.
Any muffler shop can do it. Maybe others can say what they paid for the labor.

I paid $50.00 in labor, but I helped.

There is nothing wrong with a Z06 exhaust... but if your mainly looking for looks, your exhaust with aftermarket tips will look about the same for around $100 instead of $450-650 + labor (most shops charge $50-100). The $$ difference is alot for ~18 lbs. I bought Borla Stingers recently, they are only ~3 lbs heaver than the Z06s, are $409-470 new, great flow rates, sounds awesome (but maybe to loud for some (not me)).

The Z06 exhaust is more than just lower weight, they are more free'r flowing too. But unless you can get a good deal on a slightly used like-new set, then aftermarket may be the wiser choice. But like others, my choice in the Z06 exhaust had alot to do with keeping an exhaust that looked stock on a car that was still under mfgrs warranty. Don't need to give the dealers service manager any more excuses than he already has :)

Could always get SLP. If you're only looking at Zo6 Ti exhaust then the SLP may be louder than you're looking for. But in terms of weight savings and sound? Unbeatable!

I am very happy with the z06 ti exhaust I installed. Improved air flow, slight weight reduction, only a mild increase in sound (more like an increased growl) only noticable from out side of car. This is what I was looking for, a mild growl only, nothing else to attract attention. The car alone does this enough. Also like the looks of the tips.

The only question remaining is was this worth the $625 + 70 to install?
that can only be answered by each individual and what they pay, for me it was indeed worth it.

You need to first hear a # of exhausts before you make your decision as a well informed consumer otherwise you may regret your choice later.

Ed you are correct. I ran the Z06 Ti on my car for a year. Just removed and sold as I am selling the car. Here ae my observations:

- Very Light
- No need to align tips as it is all 1 piece.
- Factory part fits perfectly.
- Tips look much more muscular on the car
- No resonance, yet sound is 30% improved at WOT
- Increased pops, burbles on decel

 Good mod for someone that respects factory Engineering.

Dowside:

- Did not improve power on the Dyno at all

For less money and a much more muscular sound as well as almost identical weight savings warranty and EZ install get some Stingers picked up about 5.2 ponnies over a Hi end Bassani with X pipe (about 1,000+ worth of exhaust).
I believe it will outflow the Z06 and provide a touch better fuel economy as well.
So for a great sound less $$$$$$ and your weight savings give us a shout there on our site and we usually have them in stock and they go like no other system I've seen.Good Luck,David S.
