hud displays every character
ever since i got my car the hud has always displayed every thing on the screen.
any ideas what this could be?
i just put it all the way down and ignore. it comes and goes whenever it wants.
what tells the hud what to display?

i didn't think i had to prove i wasn't an idiot.
i searched before i posted. i looked at at least 20 threads. couldnt find anything on the same topic.
i stated that it ALWAYS displays every character. and that the hud turns on and off whenever it wants.
and in the beginning when i first got the car i tried pushing all the buttons

You don't have to prove anything, just include all the symptoms in the question. Four posts later, we have that cleared up. The fact that the buttons don't work could be very important. One possibility is that the plug that goes to the back of the HUD could be disconnected or partially disconnected on either end. If so, that would entail quite a bit of disassembly, but it's doable. Hopefully someone can help who has had the same symptoms. I don't know if you can get to the plug at the back of the hud butttons by removing the instrument cluster or not. IF the connectors are ok, it may be a loose or broken connection in the board with the buttons or inside the HUD. The fact that the brightness control doesn't work tells me that there's a broken circuit somewhere.

Check the attached word document to see how to diagnose a problem in the HUD. Schematics are included. Keep us up to date on what you find and maybe somebody will be able to help. Hopefully, you have a DVM.
