Default OPS relocate question

i've looked at every single thread dealing with oil pressure sensor relocation. i'm going to build my own per this thread - http://forums.corvetteforum.com/1562145914-post272.html

no where does anyone talk about whether or not you need to extend the wires on the plug that goes back on the sensor. if you do need to extend the wires, how did you all do it? if not, well, i guess i can handle that.

also, how many of you have done this type of relocation? i know the TPE sells a kit that relocates it down by the oil temp sensor, but i like the idea of keeping it under the hood where i can get at it easier when it fails again.

Seems like everyone has this problem, sooner or later. Thanks, good bang for the buck relocation. As they say, its just plumbing. Nice job.

One of the oil pressure sensor relocation kits (I wish I could remember the which one) included an extension wire, with the correct factory type plugs on each end, to mate with the original sensor plug.

The original type plugs, in both male and female configurations, have to available somewhere. One possible source might be: www.mcmelectronics.com

If you're handy with a soldering iron, you could cut and extend the factory sensor wire with the correct gauge automotive primary wire. With some shrink tubing over the soldered connections, you'll have a reliable extension.

Why would you build your own with the nice ones being pretty CHEAP?

For the harness extension, you could try EFI Connection: http://www.eficonnection.com/eficonn...spx?ItemId=578

One thing that I have noticed is that most, if not all, kits use a Buick sensor. I am under the belief, perhaps mistaken, that that is because no one has a NPT or AN/ Metric (female) adaptor available which will allow use of an original metric sender unit. The Buick sender unit appears to be NPT male, not metric male.

Any one know better or more than that?

Buick sensor 12584940 from GMPartsHouse

yes, it has a 1/4 NPT male thread, which is not the same as the metric male thread on the OEM sensor.

i looked for the NPT/female metric and the AN/female metric adapters and found none. i'm going with the buick sensor.
