I don't know if this is a "C5", issue, or not (which is why Im here...lol) but I started her up the other day, and proceeeded to roll out of garage, only to find the steering wheel remained locked! Is this an electronic issue (switch)?? I know on most GM's, the switch is on the column, and works in concert (mechanically)with the steering wheel lock, but the ig switch on the C5 is on dash. Can anyone enlighten me? I'd resolve this own my own, if possible (without dischaging airbag, of course!) or have it towed to the Corvette shop! HELP!!
The steering column has a mechanical lock, and is problematic across almost all years of the C5. Search the forum for "steering column lock" and you should find more than enough help for your issue.
Did you get the dreaded "PULL KEY, WAIT 10 SEC" message?
Do you know if a steering column lock bypass is installed on your car?

Good luck.
Even with the steering wheel lock by pass kit installed by Chevorlet in 2004 it didn't prevent my steering column from locking. There is a $50.00 mod/bypass available to eliminate it completely which I have done ( vendors on this forum sell it). However, you will never be able to lock you wheel again ; say for anti theft purposes.
As requested, did you get a message on the DIC? Assuming you did, the best person here is 8VETTE7 and he can assist you. I'll ask one question though, how old or what is the state of the battery charge? A low battery can cause issues with the column lock system.
