Default Electric seat problems!! Please please help

Hey guys,

I've just imported a 70 chevelle here to Australia that's fitted with c5
Corvette electric seats.
My problem is the drivers side will not adjust front and rear UNLESS I disconnect the main seat plug and reconnect it again. Then the seat will adjust fine front or rear for 10 seconds or so before it stops working again.*
Has anyone seen this problem before?
I've read about a few issues with cold solder joints etc with these seats but does this sound like it to you guys?
I need the seat to adjust to register my car here so I can drive it!!
Please please help

Marty -Australia

The SCM and BCM communicate with each other and since you don't have a BCM, I tend to suspect the issue is there. I suppose you could manually wire up the seat motors to the switches and bypass the SCM but without a full schematic, its hard to know.

I think that's plausible, but I also wonder if there is circuit breaker issue at play here too. If the particular front/rear electric drive-motor is binding or bogged down and starts drawing too much current, a circuit breaker can trip shutting down the motor until it cools down enough to reset, and once again the motor "works", only to repeat the cycle.

Remove the seat, turn upside down and examine that particular motor's mounting and attaching hardware. Also check out the seat rails themselves to see if there is any foreign object blocking their free movement. It may be a faulty motor (internally), but I would more-so suspect the drive mechanism/gear-train, or busted/cracked seat track etc. Get power to the seat while inverted and watch closely during those few seconds it does move.

Is there a internal self resetting circuit breaker as part of te seat?
As the seat wiring is really the only electronics in te car. These were working fine prior to import.
I'll have to take it out again and have another look
