I have ordered a blackwing cold air intake for my stock 2001 LS1 my question is:
after installing the intake per the install instructions, does the car computer just "understands the change" in the filter system and adjust itself or does it need to be "tuned" in due to the intake change
Installed mine yesterday on my 99 coupe. While apart, I also cleaned the throttle body. When done (about 1/2 hour), I turned the key and she started right up. Put about 75 miles on it since yesterday. Runs like a champ.
I went from stock,to ZO6 cover,to flip tie mod,to Blackwing and got ZERO improvement at the track.Switched to a Vararam and reduced my ET by more than 3/10's instantly.I later added the power duct when it came out and dropped nearly another tenth.

Thanks for the info. I would go with great driving skills. And the vararam helped just a little
I let mine idle for about 15-20 minutes after the install, then went out and drove the p**s out of it. The computer will relearn the slightly changed air flow values and compensate.
