I ran a 10.86 @ 125MPH with a 1.53 60ft. with my 28" tall Hoosier Slicks and 110lbs weights in the rear for traction. I took the weight out and lost traction and ran a 11.03 @ 126 mph with a 1.70 60ft. The only changes from last week was I installed the VaraRam.
I went to the track to run some Nitrous, but melted 2 Spark Plugs on the first run. It only ran 10.18 @ 139 MPH. I don't know why the plugs went out, but when I check it out some more, I will let everyone know if it did any damage to the engine. It was one of those Bitter/Sweet days

I keep forgetting to take pictures of the car with the Hoosiers. I thought maybe someone got a Video of Wade driving my car and running a 9.7 @ 145 mph at the Birthday Bash.
Tom
Tom,What was your ET@ MPH before the Vararam,if I remember correctly it was 11.06@123.So you gained two tenths and three Mph with the Vararam and 100LBS additional weight, interesting, were weather conditions similiar? What intake did you have prior to the change?

Re: ARE 422 10.86 N/A (Tom Hall)
Awesome Naturaly aspirated times!  Not to many C5s running into the 10s on motor only and that is one heck of an achievement. Sorry to hear about your N20 Problems and hope the damage is minimal and you are back tearing it up asap.
Just to make sure I understand. You went 10.86 just on the motor. I ask for an important reason. Mike Norris is building me a 422, using mostly ARE components.
The difference is that he's adding an ATI Procharger with 12lbs of boost on top of the 422.
Thanks again guys. I thought it was missing on the top end on the last motor run, but didn't think to much about it B/C the numbers were good.
I changed plugs, filled up with Race Fuel and put in the Nitrous program. I autotaped the run and had no KR and only had 1 degree of KR after the 1-2 shift, that's when I felt it starting to misfire a little and when I slowed down I could hear a real bad exhaust leak. Number 5 & 7 plugs had melted the ground off the plugs. I know metal was blown out the exhaust, but what I worry about is what damage it done to the cylinder walls. Valves can be fixed fairly easy, but not the cylinders. I know this is part of Racing, but I thought the Head Gasket problems were solved on this Engine.
Anyhow, I have to find out if I can get the Head off without pulling the Engine. It has Studded head bolts. I have already done a Compression test and Leak Down test and the Gasket is blown out the bottom. No coolant leaks, just Exhaust leaking right out the bottom of the head on those 2 cylinders.
What most likely happened is when the gasket let go, it leaned out those 2 cylinders and burnt up the plugs.
I want everybody to know that I'm not saying anything bad about ARE. Nick and Wade have been Great to me. I'm just sharing my bad Luck with all of you. I will call them in the morning.
Mike, Yes I did pick up 3 mph and 2 tenths with the VaraRam. The weather was about the same. I put the weights in the rear compartments. When the track is bad I leave them in and do better on the 60ft. I know more weight is bad, but if your not hooking, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. I retired the Mud Sucker and was just running with the twin flow under the hood. I was in the market for a cold air system and liked what I seen in that system.
Tom, yes that is on motor only(10.86). I think with gears and a different Converter I could make a low 10 second car out of it. I don't know what you would run, but everybody is making power, getting it down track is the real challenge. The 6 speed guys are doing great. I just have to point and shoot and hope it goes straight. I do set up my car and tweek on it myself.
Steve, I don't think I can get the parts fast enough to make it to the Cruise In. I was really wanting to go.
Congrats on great times, Tom!
Sorry about the head gasket. Nitrous is scary šhit I gotta say :( Hopefully the damage is minimum and it’s a quick fix.
BTW: Interesting that you picked up so much going from twin flow to ram-air setup.
That’s usually the difference people see going from stock to cold-air.
I guess those aftermarket underhood intake systems don’t work that great huh?!
