Default Need to correspond with someone knowledgeable about "LS1-Edit"

Recently had some engine work done on '99 FRC and among the new was a custom cam with a 111 degree LSA. Part of the package is a Steve Cole Powerloader, which for various reasons has not been forthcoming. Idle is a little "lopey" and I'm fairly certain that an additiona 100 RPM would smooth things out. It appears that LS 1 edit may be able to accomplish this. Anyone out there have any direct experience with this product? Will it accomplish the idle adjustment needed?

Would prefer to deal with email directly rather than using band width.

Yes, LS1 Edit will allow you to adjust idle rpm under all kinds of different temps and under diffent loads like AC on in park, AC off in park, AC on in gear, AC off in gear. :)

Yup I have used LS1 Edit on several cars to accomplish this. I would pump up the idle in 50RPM increments though.

Godspeed, reason for the 50RPM increment?

So it won't idle uncessarily high. I have even done idles at 866RPM before. :)

The beauty of LS1 Edit is that it is easy to try different numbers, so I always start conservative and gradually make changes from there.

One Vin will run you $550, $100 for each additional vin you add up to a total of 4 vin on one cable. For people like me you can buy it for your C5 and your truck, etc.

It's not VIN locked, it's PCM locked. This is an important distinction if you are planning on programming more than one PCM on the same car for whatever reason.

Thx for the clarification. I was using the term VIN to make a distinction between different cars because a lot of people that I know are going in together in groups and sharing one cable and it was easier to describe how the system works that way. But you are correct, it could cause for some serious headaches for people running 2 PCMS like a buddy of mine.

This is the very reason I got LS1edit...to get the idle up after cam install. It seems that Mr. Cole is still working on my PL....after a year!!!!!!!

Still trying to decide how easy LS1-Edit will be to learn and use. I'm good with ATAP and the rest. I just don't want to get in over my head.

How easy is it to really learn?
How easy to screw something up?
How easy to tune on the dyno??

Thx!

How easy is it to really learn?
The editor itself is no biggie as long as you're not a technophobe. You do need to be organized about what you're going to change, how you're going to evaluate that change, etc. Probst's fuel injection book is a decent high level overview of the basics of the engine management system. The factory service manuals are invaluable, but information is scattered all over them.

How easy to screw something up?
If you're not organized, very. Get in the habit of satisfying yourself that you know *why* you are doing something, not just what you are doing. If you follow the practice of adjusting things in small steps, you'll wind up with many flash files. You can't be too organized in managing this stuff. I have a feature request in with Ken to export the data segment of the flash to a single text file (similar to the existing table export capability) to ease comparison between flashes. Would be nice to import from such files to.

If you're concerned about mucking something up during the flashing process, have a backup PCM ready to swap in case something goes awry.

You are ultimately responsible for what you flash though. :)

How easy to tune on the dyno??
It's not like the old days where you can change jets and timing while on the dyno. "Twisting the distributor" and the like means a reflash, and all the adaptive parameters need to stabilize again. It's really an iterative process if you want to optimize things. It's enough of a hassle (read time intensive) that I'm thinking about an on-board WBO2 setup.
