One of the things I have heard that works is the "gorilla yank" - while turning the ignition key on and off, yank the steering hard wheel right and left multiple times and sometimes it will unlock. There are also a couple of fuses that can be pulled that sometimes work but I don't know which two those are.
The first ime it happens takes a bit of a yank left nad right with the key in the on position. If the DIC displays says remove key and wait ten seconds, the do so. Then turn key on, yank wheel hard left and right a few times. turn key off and try to unlock wheel. After the first time, it will happen almost every time, but may skip a few once in a while. I have been working mine for over a week. Ordered the bypass kit from c5solutions at http://www.Corvetteforum Mall.com Good luck.
No, the Gorilla yank doesn't work, at least it didn't for me. It's actually VERY EASY to get out of column lock, but the key is to apply CONSTANT PRESSURE while fiddling the key. Grab the wheel just to the right of center (top of the steering wheel) with your left hand and lean all your body weight on it (pulling to the right) as you turn the key. Don't try to jerk it, just get as much of your body weight on it as you can and it will pop right out.
Re: READ ME NOW! Don't tow it!! Don't yank it!! (buddha)
I tried the easy way first, it didn't work. Called a friend at Corvette Masters and Burke Motorsports in Orlando. Yank it they told me, it worked. Guess they are just finicky.
