I have a stock C5 Z06 with a Borla stinger exhaust. I like the sound, but don't want it to get any louder. Are there any performance mods that don't require LT headers to be effective such as:
230/114 cam?
Port the throttle body?
Fast 102 intake?
36# injectors?
Port the heads?
I just completed my LS1 cam upgrade over the winter, also running Borla Stingers with stock manifolds, H-pipe, and cats. I would say they are maybe 5% louder than with the stock cam, and have the same burble and popping when coasting.
None of those other mods you list should affect the sound. Head porting or a Fast would provide effective gains, but are likely limited by the manifolds at some point. In other words not "as effective" without LTs, but some benefit.
If you are keeping the stock manifolds/cats, they would warrant a different cam selection for the restriction. I ended up with 222/226 115LSA +3 spec'd by Pat G from over on LS1Tech, and am more than pleased. My tuner warned me that going to long tubes with the Borla's would be unbearably loud as well. But another 30+ hp is probably waiting if I ever went to them.
I'm still using the stock 28# injectors with 94% duty cycle on a cold day, and my tuner said the % only goes down the warmer it gets. 36# may be necessary if you also did those other mods. Injectors by themselves would have negligable performance benefit unless you actually weren't flowing enough fuel.
from everything I have read here a 102 is a waste with the oem manifolds. you are bringing all that air in but no way to get it all out. With the z06 ti's long tubes didnt change the sound of mine at all.
Might want to consider using stock LS7 manifolds/cats and h-pipe. Coming from stock LS1 manifolds/cats and midpipe, the LS7 stuff wasn't any louder at all, kept valvetrain nice and quiet and felt like it flowed more.
