I've been thinking for quite some time that my P/S headlight door cover was not sitting down flush with the car, but took a closer look yesterday and noticed that it actually IS flush with the fender - it's the corner of the HOOD that sits too low (below the level of the fender). Will an adjustment to the hood stop fix this corner of the hood sitting too low or is something else wrong here?
Depending on the year of your car there is a plastic and rubber bumper that screws into the front corner of the hood that allows you to adjust the height of the front corner of the hood next to the fender. I have noticed many C5's where the hole for the bumper to screw into the hood was not drilled hence no adjustment. My 04 hood was one. I drilled the hole and bought the bumpers (one for each side ) but only needed the drivers side adjusted. I'll look for a pic of the bumper installed and post it if I can find the pic or take another.
I was wondering how the hood stop that I'm thinking of would affect the corner near the fender. Mine's an '02. Thanks!
Yep I checked this afternoon and I DON'T have the holes drilled for those bumper stops Guess I'll have to look into doing this to get that corner to sit flush with the fender and headlight door cover.
Funny. My OEM hood does not have the hole or rubber bumper stops in those areas. I know that it came from the factory that way. Maybe the factory only drilled those areas if required depending on the fit.
I drilled a small hole to begin with and then took incrementally larger drill bits to open the hole a little at a time untill I could start screwing the bumper into the hole. The center diameter of the bumper is .410. I used a Y drill which is .404 as my last drill. What ever the purpose of the bumper might have been I am using it to push up slightly on the corner of the hood so that the fender, hood and headlight door are all fairly even. Shimming the hinge will not correct the problem of getting 3 items to line up evenly. This did what was needed for me and has been in place for over 3 years. Just be very carefull drilling and make small increases in drill diameter as you enlarge the hole.
Here ia a pic or the bumper out of the hood:
I'm thinking the part I need is #5 in the diagram below. It's labeled "Hood bumper hood side" I'm also wondering about part #s 6 and 7 though. Here's the link: http://store.gmpartshouse.com/parts/...iagram=CF97055
