Default new corvette owner, couple problems need help with

Hi guys I just bought a 1997 C5 torch red coupe and I love the car but ran into couple problems and hoping you guys can help.

There is a connection on the top of the rear window that the cable goes into the headliner and the metal connection broke. Is that connection for the rear defog? Any easy way to fix it?

Second problem is the center console won't close shut, the problem looks to be with the latch receiver. It looks like the piece is just snapped in but can someone help with how to snap it out so I can replace it?

Thanks

If its broke off the glass...I suppose you could try soldering it back on if possible then use mirror glue and see if it'll stick. An auto glass shop might be able to advise you better. As far as the center console, contact Gene Culley at www.gmpartshouse.com

The console may be in the LOCKED position, use your key to unlock it, see if this works. If it's unlocked, then you just have to push down on the door, sometimes a little firm.............

Thanks for the replies. I don't have any solder but I tried to use krazy glue to glue the two metal pieces together but couldn't get it to stick so maybe I need a thicker glue or get a solder gun.

Console is not locked, the plastic latch receiver just won't let the latch in no matter how hard I push it in so no idea why but I ordered the new part which wasn't too expensive. Only question now is there a way to get out the old latch receiver without taking the whole console apart?

Please take a picture and post of the rear window issue so that I/we can see the problem and better assist you. If you are trying to glue together an electrical connection, its not going to work.

As far as the latch is concerned, you'll need to take it apart. Easy to do, then you'll be able to identify what's wrong with it.

My console latch did that too. I just reached in with a bent screwdriver and pulled it up. It just pops up. Be sure it's unlocked before you do this.

Thanks a lot for the help guys, my console latch problem is now resolved. I'll try to get a picture later of the back window but there is 3 connectors on it, 2 on the sides, and 1 right at the very top. The connector broke right on the metal with half of it attached to the plastic tab, and the other half still attached to the top window. It's very thin metal but I guess solder might be the answer like you said earlier.

There are two part epoxy metal products that should bond the metal pieces together and then a clear epoxy to stick it back on the window. If all fails see a glass person as posted above.

They have those kits for gluing rear view mirrors back on, maybe that would do the trick. They also have conductive copper paint to repair rear window defoggers.

The wire that connects to the top of your rear window is for your radio antenna, which uses part of the defogger wires as an antenna. The defogger wires are at the base of each of your pneumatic hatch supports. If you post a photo we can better help you make the repair.

Default Everything you need to fix the rear defogger

The guys at the car wash broke both tabs on my defogger I ordered the "Master Defroster Repair Kit" PN 2700 it worked great had everything I needed. If you antena connection is broken you can probably use the same tabs in this kit and their epoxy. The epoxy has a conductor imbedded in it so it makes good contact with the defogger tabs.

Hey guys here are the pictures, the first one is the plastic piece that broke off with part of the metal still in it and the second picture is of the metal piece still on the rear window. I think the conductive epoxy sounds like a good idea and I'll probably try that.

Also it's good to know finally what it is the radio antenna. The funny thing is though that my radio still sounds nice and clear which is good.

Thanks.

Okay just to give an update, I went to a local electronics store and I bought some silver conductive epoxy to fix it as one of you suggested. The epoxy wasn't very sticky and I couldn't get it to stay together long enough for it to cure, so I got some krazy glue which was able to stick the 2 pieces together and then put the conductive epoxy on over top and let it cure. I think it's fixed now but the radio still worked before so can't say anything is different but feels good knowing it's the right way now, I just hope that it doesn't fall off in a few days but time will tell. Thanks for the replies, you guys helped fixed my issues.
