It seems a popular battery choice is the AC Delco Professional Series 78-6YR battery, but the length (10.2", according to dealer) suggests a very tight squeeze in my '02s battery box. Has anyone had problems with it fitting in the box??

A Group size 78, which is a side-terminal battery, fits just fine. There are others as well, but you'll generally get more bang for your buck with a 78, all else being equal.

I just put in a group 78 Autozone Duralast Platinum AGM battery in my 2002. Fits great.

Fits perfect, but weighs a few pounds more that a Group size 75 battery.

More CCA's and reserve capacity, from a Group size 78, is a fair trade-off for the extra weight.

My rule is: ALWAYS buy the most CCAs/RCs I can afford, no matter what the vehicle. It's like the old Fram commercials used to say, "You can pay me now, or pay me later".

Kirkland batteries from Costco have always met that criteria for me.
