Detonation???
ok i have a weird detonation sounding problem that ive had the entire time ive owned my car and its driving me insane. its a 02 Z06 with about 26k miles on it upon getting the car i noticed that it has a spark knock/detonation sound under hard acceleration so i did plugs wires and fuel filter.. problem did not go away once it cooled down this winter it went away... now heres where it gets weird. from then on i would only notice the exact same sound under heavy braking? i noticed it when a woman pulled out infront of me in traffic so i hit the brakes hard and it sounded like it was detonating like crazy even weirder is the clutch was pushed in any ideas guys? this is driving me nuts.

I would start by re-bedding the brake pads and see if it is just some sort of build up on the rotors. Bunch of different procedures found here: http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/tech/....jsp?techid=85

It's very unlikely to have detonation during braking! Detonation occurs when the engine is under load.
