Default Changing a Crank Sensor on a LS2

Anbody change a crank sensor on an LS2? It looks pretty tough to get to it. I can see the mounting bolt from underneath, but I can't get my hand in there. Looks to me like you have to at least pull the water pump. Just looking for another opinion.

On the LS2 it is under the water pump. Looks like you could get it out without pulling the pump but you need to pull the pump and it is right there on the front of the engine. Just get some new water pump gaskets and take the pump off, easy.

Thanks, for the reply. Before I go through all the trouble I'm going to actually do some real trouble shooting. I'm going to make a jumper connector with test points so I can hook it up to a digital o-scope and run a trace.

1. The crank sensor is on the lower RHS of the block behind the starter, just like it's baby brother the LS1/6

2. The cam sensor is moved up to the front cover on the LS2, it's actually below the waterpump, x2 10mm head bolts retain the sensor and wire harness/bracket
2a. The cam sensor on LS1/6 is out back aft of the valley cover, next to the oil press sensor(3 wire conn.)

3. FYI, if you are ever working on the LS1/6, the cam/crank sensors use the shortest bolts in the block(same 10mm head and thread size as the valley/F&R cover/oil pan, but shorter)

Thanks for clarification. I guess I need to check both of them. When I first put the engine in, it would only start sometimes and two of the wires on the cam position sensor were swapped. Oddly enough sometimes it wouldn't start at all.
