Default Front Calipers on Rear

This is probably a stupid question, but here goes:

I have a spare set of powder coated brake calipers for my car. I got thinking - "Wouldn't it look a lot better to have a set of front calipers on the rear as well?"

Is this possible? I am guessing that I may have to change the rear rotors if it is.

PS - I did a search and could not find an answer so pardon me if I'm .

This is possible and many have already done it with great success. There is a long thread on this already.

Thanks for the info. It seems it can be done with C6 Z51 rotors in the rear and a couple of minor modifications. It can also be done simply by using C5 front rotors. However, that would mean the loss of the e-brake. Hmmm. I have an extra set of C5 front rotors as well.

The uprights (spindle mounts) are the same front and rear. So it would make sense that with the front abutments, calipers and rotors it would work.

No E Brake is probably less of an issue on an auto trans car, but still is nice to have.

The question is, what would the bigger brakes do to the proportioning? I would think the rears would want to lock (activate the ABS) much easier?

Seems that most of the people that have done this mod havent experienced any issues. Almost all have reported better braking power. Im looking at doing this mod myself.

I have been running this mod for the past month with no issues. Have tried hard braking, and while it activates the ABS on an extreme hard stop no sooner than normally and the rears are not locking up. Performance is at least if not slightly better than stock, but that is a very subjective opinion without before and after actual stopping tests. Just a SOTP judgement. I am looking into an adjustable brake master cylinder to provide some more rear brake to level out the dive on hard stops. I used the C6 Z51 rear rotor in order to keep the E-brake on my 6 speed manual. Also the brackets have to be modified when using the rotor with E-brake.

Thanks for the info. If nothing else, the bigger brakes will look a lot better......pretty pathetic I know.

What needs to be modded on the brackets? A little machining?

Thanks. I hadn't paid attention to all of that until just this week when I disassembled the rear suspension prior to dropping the cradle for trans and diff replacement. I noticed the spindles are the same as the front. Hmmmm.
