Default Header tube size

Guys,

Looking to add headers and hi flo cats to my Borla x pipe and stingers. What is the difference in header pipe size say 1 3/4 - 1 7/8 other than noise?

Really don't think the 1-78 headers will be any more noisier than the
1-3/4's.

However, If your at stock HP levels, I would suggest the smaller diameter headers for ease of installation.
Good luck.

The 1-3/4" headers are designed for stock cube engines that are lightly modified - cold air and maybe a cam. They keep the proper amount of back pressure to make everything flow and work properly. The 1-7/8" headers are designed for big cube motors, head/cam motors and forced induction that need to flow more exhaust to achieve max HP and torque. Use 1-7/8" on a mildly modified or stock motor and you will not achieve much in the way of HP gain and will probably hurt your torque figures. Talk to the guys at L.G. Motorsports or American Racing Headers about your specific application to get a recommendation. No difference in noise levels from one size to the other, they both are going to be louder than stock.

I agree--stockish engines especially stock cubed ones respond better to
1 3/4" tubes -larger ones are best suited for larger cudes or big cams where you consistantly run above 6500 RPM's Too large a tube size when not required will kill off some bottom end TQ---
