Default tranny/diff leak

I'm about to take my 99 MT6 C5 to the dealer tomorrow to check a tranny/diff leak. I don't have a lift anymore so I can't tell where the leak is coming from exactly but by judging by the puddle in my driveway there is a sizable leak coming from that area. My question is - are there any known/common problem with these kind of leaks? I just want to have all my ammo and knowledge before the dealer tries to ream me for more money! Hope it's nothing major, and just a gasket  ... Thanks guys.

Is the liquid leak pink (tranny) or clear/green-blue(differential)?

And yes, there has been a pretty significant history of differential leaks in C5s, from what I have heard...and experienced.

Its very common, a 99% chance your problem is comming from the left side diff cover, there is an O-ring in there that collapses. Hope your still under warranty, although its just a ring its a lot of labor involved. Its very very very common.

Thanks! It is a very clear liquid... The unfortunate problem is that the car is no longer under warranty (just by a few weeks). Hopefully the dealer will be a little lieniate :nopity ....

Definitely your diff...and my leak was from the right, incidentally. Turns out the differential cover was improperly machined, and was replaced under warranty.

Did it just start leaking recently? If so, it may be just your O-ring and seal, as that was the first fix they tried with my car.

I would try to still get GM to cover it, your dealer can help you out, or call GM Customer Service. Its a known and common design problem. I think its listed as a 6+ hour repair (very expensive), b/c they kept mine overnight and provided a rental car... I think they only do that for 6+ hour repair jobs.

Thanks guys... I checked, and it is indeed coming from the right side diff cover. She goes into the shop tomorrow so hopefully I'll have in back by wednesday :D .

I will have a word with the dealer if they try and charge me labor (I don't mind paying for the O-ring)...
