Going to drag strip with vette for first time tomorrow night. Car is 6 speed manual with A&A supercharger. I have never started it off the line - any suggestions on what rpms to drop the clutch the first time? It has drag radials on it.

"Dropping the clutch" is a bad idea on these cars unless you are out to purposely damage one of your drive line components. Slight slipping with a progressive throttle application is preffered. Run a search on "Ranger launch techniques" for more information on the subject.

Hi Jim

If its your first time with a supercharged C5 6 speed be aware of the driveline weakness before you start dumping the clutch. The differential has one long and one short output shaft and the long one snaps easy if you shock it. I cant tell from your profile if you upgraded or not.Check in the drag race section for best launch method.

Good luck.

Most important thing is to avoid "wheel hop" at all cost-- It will break something--If it starts to hop---LIFT !!---as far as launch RPM---many things to consider--How serious you are about racing and if you are willing to risk breaking something--Takes lots of practice to find that sweet spot between too high and too little RPM's --Too high and the tires will spin badly--too little and it will bog-- A starting point for a begineer would be 2000-2500 -
(IMHO)

If it is your first time, go out to have fun!

Take it easy the first few passes, and learn the car.

Keep in mind that your main priority is to be able to drive the car home.

You are not going to set any records on your first night out, so go and enjoy!

This is good advice. There are several really good drivers in the performance section that can give you specific advice, but the main thing is to have fun and drive it home.

If you decide you want to find the true potential of your car, venture into the performance section and start asking.

Bottom line is have fun.

I drag mine on the weekends I've learned not to give it all the clutch at first otherwise it spins the whole way

If the drag radials are brand new, they won't hook that well until they have been heat cycled a few times. I would drop the pressure down to 20 lbs and keep an eye on that 60 ft time. They can go lower, but if you don't have an air tank to bring them back, don't go to low.

Be prepared to back out if it starts to hop.
