Questions about removing Diff/A4/TT
Tomorrow I will be removing thll of this with the car on jackstands. Cradle is stripped of all the suspension etc.
Question I have is, is the car ok on the jackstands at the jacking points with all of this removed? Or will it be too front heavy? I can block the front cradle if need be.
I have new diff, trans and TT to install. There is a plate that goes in between the diff and A4. There is an oil seal in that plate. Is this seal replaceable? Or do you buy a whole new plate? I could not find this info in the manual. I'm sure it is in there, but it's not mentioned in the section on removing and replacing the A4. It would be dumb to not replace it one way or the other.
I still have to reassemble the diff. The trans is ready to go, so next weekend it will all go back together.
Thanks,
Ron
I assume your referring to the round seal plate that goes in between the differential & tranny.
This is a six inch in diameter aluminum disc w/ a seal in the center & an O ring around it's circumference.
The seal & rubber o ring, are replaceable & advisable.
Carrier tranny center shaft seal (A4) 24207010
Newer substitute part number is 24228816
Seal plate o ring (A4) 12369456
Aluminum 6" seal plate 12369457
I pulled these part numbers from my files & could have been superseded.
In regards to having the car's weight supported at the puck areas & removal of every thing from the bell back & car being in an unstable (counterweight) position.
As you suggested of blocking the front cradle & of course the oil pan,
would be an advisable/safety, thing to do.
Good luck.
