Default Tires size????

well picked up new rims for my vette there sizes are the following:
Front Wheel size: 17x9.5
Rear Wheel size: 18x10.5
Front Wheel offset: 54mm
Rear Wheel offset: 56mm

any recommendations on tires? I've talked to several tire places and the sizes I'm being told are varying, not to meant ion the price being almost $1,700 which i felt was a bit excessive hell its more then double what the new rims coast.

The stock Z06 rim widths are the same as yours. The stock Z06 tires are 265/40/17 front and 295/35/18 rear. I agree they seem to be pretty steep pricing.

One option is Nitto NT05 in 275/40/17 and 295/35/18. The fronts are a little wider, but I have heard that people are running them. Discount Tire Direct has them for $163 front and $249 rear ($824 shipped)

I saw in another thread that other sizes that keep the front to back size difference (so it doesn't upset the active handling) are 255/45/17 front and 285/40/18 rear. These tire sizes show they will work on your size rims per the Tire Rack specs charts. I think the diameter might be a slight bit taller than the stock size by about a 1/4" than the standard C5 (0.9" taller than the Z06) so the speedometer will be off by about one MPH (two mph for Z06) at highway speeds (60). For example at Discount Tire Direct a set of Nitto NT555's are $136 front and $223 for a total of $718 shipped. I know that these are smaller widths than stock sizes and most people prefer going wider instead of narrower, but it is a less expensive way to go and still get some nice tires. This size also fits the standard C5 rims and might be a good upgrade for them.

QC is right...I have a 2002 Z06 and run NT05 275/40/17 front and 295/35/18 rear. I just bought the car from a guy who used it mostly for HPDE and he said this is his third set and loves the set up. It was recommended by a local speed shop that works on track cars/corvettes. I runs fine on the street and I am going to Road Atlanta on these tires this month and will update.
