When I took my car out of storage for the winter my key fob would not unlock the car. I figured the battery was dead. I haven't gotten around to getting a new battery for the fob so this past weekend I tried my other key fob and it won't open the car, either. It may be possible that both batteries are dead, but that seems unlikely. Is there anything else that might be wrong?
Your car has forgotten the unique adresses of the key fob. Hold lock and unlock, on the key fob, down at the same time for 10 seconds. If that doesn't work your owner's manual has the proceedure for a complete retraining.
Push OPTIONS button and press until you get a blank screen. Then hold down the reset button until "Learn or Train FOB 1" appears. Then hit the reset and it will tell you to hold down the lock and unlock buttons at the same time until it "learns". They do the same for the second fob. Then it will ask you if you want to train the tire sensors. Just exit and both fobs should work. I just had to reprogram mine after disconnecting the battery to install a Blackwing.
Good Luck. It is easy.
Thanks everyone! I'll try out the re-learn at lunch. I had disconnected the battery for winter. It's a red top Optima and it's fully charged, but I'll keep that in mind, too, if I have problems again.
