Default problem with fuel gauge

I have had my fuel gauge go to empty twice this spring and was hoping someone else has had the same problem, I have did the techron fix already with 2 bottles so far and not sure its due to the sulphur problem. seems to happen after about 1to 11/2 hrs of driving time tank is never below half so I was hoping someone can help me thanks geo. vette is 99frc

Most likely you have a fuel transmitter that is sick.. If you dump the computer codes it should tell you which side is acting up...

I had the same problem.. It's kinda healed for now but I'm sure I'm going to have to replace, most likely both sides, the transmitters.. They aren't all that bad to change from what I've read.

I also don't think techron helps.. But I tried it too.. Why not?? It's easy..

I would keep trying techron...it may take a while to dissolve the built up sulfur deposits on the sending unit cards

Heres a pic of the sending units/cards taken out of my 2004 this past December...the cards looked pretty clean because I had been using techron for a long time...

Thanks for the pictures!! I'm wondering how much wear you noted on the wipers and stationary contacts?? Do you have some close up photos??

Your fuel level is probably just dropping to a point where the buildup isnt dissolved yet.Stay with the techron.

It's possible your right side siphon-jet fuel pump assembly has failed (clogged orifice?) and you're using up the fuel in the left side tank and that's why it only will take 1/2 a tank (~) when you fill back up.

Have you ever run out of gas and filled back up and the system only took 8-10 gals (~) to "fill up"?

I would think his would be relatively clean/unworn seeing as how those senders are out of an '04. Don't know the mileage on them of course.

27,000 miles...the mechanic noted to me how clean the cards were because of the use of techron...or he said I could have used GM's stuff in a bottle, which he said is actually techron
