Re: How much power does it take to run 11's? (J99FRC)
J....it is all in the launch (60 ft time) and gearing.....you can put 3.73 in there, get down to a 1.7 sixty foot.....shift smooth and at proper time and be in teh 11's.....Ranger put a stock 2001 z06 into the 11s .......
and the 60 ft time is TRACTION and launch ....... if you put down 360 or so with stock gears....let SW drive it and you are there EASY :)
Re: How much power does it take to run 11's? (IH8PONYS)
For me it would take about 600 RWHP to hit 11's. Traction and knowing how to launch are the biggest factors in running a car well at the drags. Me, I'm a lost cause.

Ever see the Flintstones? Just start at the top of a very long hill.
j/k couldn't resist. :D
I can't say how to get 11s since I have yet to drive a car of my own that fast. The RS will probably beat any other car I get to that mark. Once it is blown and I work out a good suspension I hope to see mid 10s. :flag
I would say that the common denominator as far as reaching 11s with C5s and MN6 are headers, gears, intake, and DRs. You already have a ZO6 which means even with the 3.42 gears your final gear ratio is still close to that of an LS1 with 3.73s due to the ZF. Can't hurt though. I have never seen a Z at the track, but I would be curious to see just how deep some DRs can get you to bite into the 11s on an otherwise stock Z. Can anyone else answer that one?
Re: How much power does it take to run 11's? (Brett C5 SCCA)
ET's are much less of a function of HP than it is traction/gearing. Trap speeds, on the other hand, are almost totally dependant on HP. The taller the gears (to a certain point) and the quality of traction will dictate ET big time. This is how 300rwhp cars weighing 3500lbs can click an 11 second pass. but look at their Trap; it will be low, like 113 or so. Now, when i see a car blowing thru the traps at 130mph but have a sucky ET like 12.5sec, i am more impressed, because to go 130mph (say, the same weight of 3500lbs) you need gobs of power, on the order of 500rwhp+. If this guy were to straighten out his gearing and traction, he'd be a fuggin brute, ET wise. if youre an ET fanatic, get the 4.10 gears and ET slicks on 16" rims and a big yank torque converter if an A4, you will kill em.
Re: How much power does it take to run 11's? (rwj383)
My car dynos 358 corrected. On a good air day 377 actual RWHP.
My best time to date is a 1.85 60' 11.933@114.52. This is on a bone stock 2002 Z06 on the stock radials. But these were very hard launches and not the hot ticket for long clutch life.
If you want to be able to run 11's any day any time in an FRC you will probably need about 400 RWHP. You can actually get into the 11's with less. But this will get you there for sure (plus a bit of safety margin). A H/C pkg and a good clutch should actually put you closer to mid 11's. But if for instance you baby the car out of the hole (2.0-2.1 60') then an 11.8-11.9 is pretty easy to come by with this sort of setup.
Re: How much power does it take to run 11's? (J99FRC)
A good heads/cam packing will definately get you into the 11s. Anything around 400rwhp is plenty to run 11s, then it comes down to the little things. Gears, clutch and tires are just as important as the HP. I ran my 11.8 on 3.42 gears, '02 Z06 clutch, and 275 Nitto DRs. Not the idea setup to run 11s, but shows what can be done with stock gears, and a not so great clutch. 3.73 or 3.90 gears, and a strong clutch would've made the 11.8 into probably an 11.5 or better run.
The '02 Z06 clutch will do okay for a little while with 400rwhp, but won't last if you race the car. And it also has some slippage when launching at the track. Even after driving it hard on the street, I can feel the pedal gets closer to the floor. I would go as far as to say a strong clutch (ie: Cartek) is a must if you are going to race your car with heads/cam.
Re: How much power does it take to run 11's? (J99FRC)
Hey all,
I have 396 corrected rwhp (currently) and on a cool fall day last year at the route 66 show in Joliet IL, due to my horrible 60 ft times and complete lack of traction, (i am running dunlop s7000 tires which suck and my driving of my MN6 leaves a lot to be desired!) I was running 12.4-12.6 all day. Now, what I was excited about was this... I normally run a trap speed of around 117 mph (it was 58 deg THIS day and almost no humidity) I had a trap speed of 121 mph!!! it was friggin awesome... Anyway, I hope to pick up some 17 in drag radials and gs wheels to mount them on, I baby the stock clutch and I can't get traction anyway, so what good is it going to do we to launch at 4000 rpm and just spin the tires??? I would like some ideas on how to improve my launch time, the car seems to 'bog' off the line with that 112 lsa cam I have leaving the line at low rpm, but at too high an rpm I just spin...
Re: How much power does it take to run 11's? (AVETTE)
AVETTE, the only way I've found not to bog is to raise your launch RPM. I was a little weary of doing it at first, but it worked. I had the same problem bogging after the heads/cam, the car would fall on it's face when I would launch, even launching as high as 4k rpms. I actually had to bring my launch rpms up to 4600 to keep it from bogging. Doing that resulted in a 1.80 60ft on Nitto 275 drag radials. I'm gonna try 5k next time I race, and hopefully cut some 1.7 60ft times. Good luck.
