Default Flameball Owners: Basic installation tips?

Basically, what wires do you hook the two lightbulb wires to? Thanks in advance.

We have install instructions on our C5 Tips & Tricks page.
http://www.cau-llc.com/flameballins.htm

This was for a 99, and some people have mentioned that the new Trac Control has different wires, but this should help you start.

Someone help me!

Ok, hooked it up last night, it lit up for about ten minutes......on the drive home, it went out.

Took it apart just now, the lightbulb will flicker on for a second then go off, followed by a little smoke by the light. I'm connecting it to the orange and brown/white wires.

Anyone have any ideas?

All you do is hook the positve wire the (wire with the Clamp on connector) to a good power source. Then hook up the other wire to a good ground! It is very easy.

Smoke is BAD!!! Ground it to the CAR and not the existing wires.

I've had one in my 00 Vette and now my 02 and I had them both hooked up by connecting to the orange and brown wires going to the traction control button. They are the first 2 wires on the harness depending on how you're looking at the harness. If the light flickers as you go down the road then it's a loose connection within the splice. If it flickers sitting still while you're holding the bulb, then it sounds like you have a bad bulb. If it's a short then you'll blow the 15amp fuse (it's the blue one on the far right in the middle) in the passenger footwell fusebox. You'll know if it's blown because the trunk release on the dash will not work and when you turn on the headlights the traction control button will not illuminate.

If you need to get a replacement bulb, you can visit an electronic parts store (radio shack won't have these) like I did and buy a pure white gas filled bulb along with a little resistor to bring it to the right voltage.

Sometimes the crimp connectors don't make a great connection on the active handling wires. I had the same problem on both of my C5s. I had to re-crimp them and finally they worked and didn't flicker off and on.

Like I said above, I have mine connected to the orange and brown wires which only illuminates the bulb when the headlight switch is turned to the driving light position or headlight on position.

To fix your problem now, you can wire an inline toggle switch that you can pick up from Radio Shack. Add some extra wire and you can put the switch in the center console for easy access.

That's what I did. It just pisses me off that I had to rig a brand new car and now have a toggle switch in my console.

Oh well, no mod goes perfect, ever. :smash:

Mine are connected to the brown and brown w/ white stripe wires. Bulb comes on when parking lights are turned on. Also dims and brightens when dash lights are dimmed or brightened. I used CAU's wiring kit with the splice clamps. That part was very simple.

I ran my power wire off of the ignition. I wired in an LED insted of the Bulb. I'm putting a switch in this weekend.
