I've searched and read several threads but still want more information.
What transmission fluid do you guys recommend for a 2000 6-speed? Just wanting some opinions and to see what some of you guys use, so fire away!
I did just see the thread that had a poll for what everybody uses, but it's an older thread and maybe there are some newer products out there since that thread was posted.
seems like the common ones are pennzoil synchromesh, amsoil TQD, or the over the counter GM fluid. A lot of people like mobil as well but then there is something about it eating the rings on the 00 transmission
I use the cheapest NON SYNTHETIC DEX III I can find, and change it out twice a year or so depending on mileage. I think I have Castrol in it right now. Not worth the risk of killing the blocker rings by running a good synthetic. Just keep the cheap stuff fresh.
For those interested, I’m happy to offer dealer wholesale prices, about 25% below retail, for forum members via the AMSOIL Preferred Customer Program. Drop me a PM if interested.
There are a lot of posts on here that say that mobil 1 is bad for the paper in the synchros. I read enough of them to make me not want to risk that particular brand.

Yes.

The tech rep at Tremec (who bought Borg Warner who built your 6sp) recommended Dexron 3 or Mobil 1.
Tremec also told me the same thing last March for all C5 6 speeds. I've used Royal Purple, Mobil 1 and Amsoil. RP was not satisfactory in cooler weather. I cannot tell any difference between the Mobil and Amsoil but my experience is they are both better than RP.
