Just got back last night from a trip to the Corvette plant / musem in Bowling Green leaving from Tampa FL. My gas gauge started doing some funky stuff along the way. When the tank drops a bit under full the gas gauge drops to E (Flat lines) then the low fuel appears on the read out and the check engine light comes on. Since I was able to put more that 200 miles on te car while in this condition I started using the trip odometer to see whan I would need gas.
Weirder after the tank fell under half a tank the gauge would come back up, read correctly and then the low fuel light and check engine light both dissapear? This happened throughout the trip. I don't have a way to pull a code today but will try and get one during the week this week. Meanwhile any idea's?
Before leaving for the trip I installed a window valet but don't think this may have anything to do with this? Otherwise the car is stock!
WOW, gas guage problems in a C5. That's a completely new one. Never heard of that one before
Nice constructive post, the guys been a member here since April 2012, a newbie. Bonzo, this is a prettty common problem and has been well documented. You can use the search function, the most common solution is to use a bottle of Techron with a few fillups of fuel. Do some reasearch, good luck, and welcome to the forum.
Thanks guys, I am new to the forum, but not to vettes, this is my 6th one, but only my 2nd C5 my last C5 was a 98 Pace car and didn't have this issue. I'll read up and try the techtron as well.
