Can someone tell me in detail how to remove the console to get to the fuel door switch.Mine stopped working and all the fuses check ok.i have a 2000 A4.Thanks in advance for any help
If your sure it's not the fuse Minni 32 (15A) located in the pass side footwell.
Remove the nuts holding the rear section of the console & tilt side ways & looking from the passenger side, you will see where the switch lives.
More than likely it has become slightly dislodged from it's bracket.
Gently push it into position & see if the door will pop open.
Can you hear a click when you press the button? The fuel door switch and the solenoid at the fuel door could be working and the door still not open if the plunger is sticking. You might try lubing the plunger first.
The wiring harness for the fuel door switch goes in at a ridiculously awkward angle. No idea why GM designed it that way. It's a PITA to reconnect if you have big hands.
The switch plugs in from the passenger side of the center console. to remove the center console do the following:
Open Lid
Remove black oval covers at rear of console.
Remove 2 10mm nuts under the oval covers
Pry up active handling plate immediately in front of console. Disconnect wiring harnesses and set aside.
Disconnect cigarette lighter wire.
Remove 2 10mm nuts immediately in front of the console.
Lift center console off of the studs in the rear (where the first two bolts you removed were) and slide it backwards.
You'll see the wiring harness for the fuel door running under the console and toward the passenger side.
FWIW I'd be sure to check fuse 32 before I pulled the console...
