Default DIC Lights, Can the be replaced ?

I noticed that the center portion of my DIC is very dim compared to the top and bottom so I'm assuming there are 3 bulbs in it and the center bulb is dead. Are they replaceable or do I have to replace the entire unit because its sealed.
If so does anyone know what size blub it takes ?

Default Lights...

If the back of the DIC is anything like the door switch panels you should see something like this on the back of it...

You'll have to twist off the little white circles to get to the lights. After that you'l have to unwrap the leads near the bulb head first, then continue to unwrap the leads until you can slide out the bulb.

Radio Shack sells a 25 Ma bulb that fits quite well. It's just a tad bit dimmer that the stock bulb but it will work. Barely noticable at night.

You'll have to cut off the rubber lead protector and strip the insulation completely off the leads. Then twist each lead and tin them lightly with soldier. Then just insert the bulb and wrap it in reverse and trim it to length... Good luck...

Post a picture of the Back of the DIC when you get it out. Show us what you found...

Jon.

Step-by step available here: http://www.spdkilz.com/techtipleddic.html

I took the opportunity to go blue LEDs when one of mine burnt out.

Excellent... I went in search of pics of the back of a DIC and couldn't find one... this should help.

I went with the LED upgrade from spdkilz.com as well but in red. The DIC, door switches, and as of a couple hours ago my HVAC are all red done and it looks great. It is a cheap and somewhat time consuming fix but by far my favorite interior mod. It really brings the car to life compared to the stock bulbs which are dull and basically impossible to find from what I understand.
