I have a '99 Corvette convertible (6-speed) and I live in Chicago. I was planning a drive to the beach so packed the car and put the top down. I noticed the passenger window did not go down when I stowed the top. Not only that, but the lock and mirror on that side were not functioning either. I figure no big deal. As I got 10 miles from home I noticed all my warning lights went off, the radio turned off, my temp. gauge was pinned at 260 and the fuel gauge read E. The heads up display was gone. The voltmeter was normal and the car was running fine. I pulled off the highway, turned around and went back home. After I pulled into the garage and turned the car off, I re-started it and everything was back to normal, except the passenger door. So my question is who in Chicago can diagnose and fix this? Do I have to go to a dealer? I've never had any issue with this car (and I bought it new in 1998) and therefore don't even know a dealer in town. Any help with this problem would be appreciated.
Thanks. I checked the accordian tube and it was disconnected from the door. Shaking it, however, didn't change anything in the passenger door. It does sound like the same problem, though.
I got same problem. Did search in forum, found bare wire near connector shorted. So pull the accordian tube use elect tape cover bare wire problem solved. Do search in forum will have alot post for this.
Easy DIY cost $0.
Good luck
Check the connector VERY carefully. Here is a post from Bill Curlee with a perfect picture. My 99 Vert looked EXACTLY like the photo. Little tweaking with a sharp pick and all is well again.
You can thank Bill Curlee for posting that picture. Saved my butt too.
One thing I'd like to know though. How the heck does that connector get fubared in the first place? ? I saw no apparent evidence that would make me suspect that being the problem. No chafing, corrosion...nothing.
