Need to change the oil soon. I don't know which oil filter to use. I've always used Fram or Purolaters. With the vette, I thinking either Mobil One, or
K & N. I've heard good about both, and the Mobil 1 is a few dollars more.
The AC Delco (PF44) is about $6, but doesn't seem much better than the Fram or Purolater. Any advice is appreciated. :)
Doesn't really matter when it's only on there for 3K my oil is hardly dark when I dump it. Fram filters are not crappy filters. There filters are better today then they have ever been. Don't buy into all the snakeoil claims that your engine will last longer if you use a 15.00 filter over a 6.00 one that's total BS.
I think the key is to change the oil and filter every 3K. I have a daily driver C4 that I've owned since new, that has almost 190K on it. I just replaced the oil pan and valve cover gaskets a few weeks ago and there was no build up what so ever and that car has only had Mobil 1 with Fram filters since new.
The AC Delco UPF-44 and the Mobil 1 oil filters seem to be the same. The UPF-44 has media that filters out partices in the 8 to 10 micron range. The regular AC Delco PF-44 filter only goes down to the 25 to 40 micron range.
The UPF-44 filters are available from forum vendors (about $8-9 each).
