OK......noticed more problems after returning from the Cruise-in :cry While putting the street tires back on the rears I notice the face of one of the rear rotors had a crack :cry Considering drilled and slotted being I'm going to have to replace this one but will I be wasting my $$$$$$
Re: Brake rotor recommendations please (Mag Red Monster)
NO. Get the cross-drilled slotted rotors. from GM. They are about $30-$40 more, but cool and wear better as well as reduced brake dust. This is what I heard from a salesman at Ecklers a couple of weeks ago. He had them on his 2000. Theyt looked real good too. He also stated, unmless your racing alot, the high priced alternatives are not really worth the $$$ they ask for them. They will provide more stopping power, but rather expense for routine around town driving. I am ordering the GMMMM cross-drilled/slotted. $120 each from Ecklers with a discount.

I zinc plated the GM drilled and slotted rotors and they look great.
People at the cruise-in thought they were manufactured by someone other than GM.
I mated the rotors with ceramic pads.
The rotors were purchased from Fichtner for $110 ea.

Where did you get them coated and how much did it run? Got any pics you can throw out to me?

If you are planning any track time go with slotted but not drilled.
Drilled rotors look cool but, IMO, are actually counter productive to braking.

MAG RED... I'm stuck on the Eradispeed rotors right now since TBYRNE Motorsports has a killer sale until JUNE 30. The Eradispeeds are on sale too... the GM replacements seem like a good idea but my current stock rotors are scored pretty good! Plus they have had problems with GM rotors warping... The upgraded rotors might not warp or score... got to find that out from other members! I have to do a brake job by October so I've got to make a choice soon.
Re: Brake rotor recommendations please (Mag Red Monster)
A good alternative, (what I do), is to buy factory rotors and take them to a local machine shop. They can cnc mill slots on them for 20 a piece. I took them a picture of what I wanted and the rotors. We drew the slots on the rotors. They came up with the math program that would allow thw mill to cut them for both 12 and 13" rotors. It cost about 45 for the set up, but that program is saved on thier computer and now takes them 25 min to do all 4 rotors both sides.
If you get them slotted at a local machine shop, ask for the rounded edge end mill for tooling. The rounded edge of the tool allos the surface stress to be coupled into the rotor body will less chance of causing a stress riser than the square end mill tooling. Its the stress risers that cause cracks.
