problem with security light on dash 01 z06
so occasionally I put my key into my new 01 z06, and the security light will blink at me, and not allow the vehicle to turn over or run. If i wait a few minutes the light will go away, and let me start the car. Then sometimes, even though it starts, it will stall immediately after starting until i pull the key out, close the door, arm the alarm, disarm, and then start it again, and it will finally run. I dont know whats going on with this thing, but it sure is weird. I also noticed that while messing with this today the column lock was locked, even though the key was in the on position.
There was a code related to this. P1631 i think.
what to do?

thank you for the sound advice. I actually had the charging system tested 3 nights ago and the battery under no load was at 12.8, and with the car running and all accessories on it read 13.2-13.6...
strangely the car was acting up again today and for fun I pulled the key out, wiped the pellet with my fingers, and it started right up. Could be coincident or maybe that is the issue.

My '02 Z06 was giving me similar issues. I just cleaned the metal piece on the key pellet real well with a soft pencil eraser and it all went away and everything works normal. Start with the simple stuff first.
