I always mount hood brackets to the body first on all cars. Place tape on all the hood and body edges so during the alignment you don't chip your paint. Also, make sure you have plenty of friends handy to help so the hood does not move accidently during adjustment and cause a problem. In the future, you can use some washable pens ( the kind kids use so parents can wash off with water) to outline the placement of the mounting points. Once reinstalled. a little water will remove the marks.
On a C5 I found it is easier to install the two bolts , snugly into each side of the nose of the hood, first.
Then lowering the nose end with the hinges onto the four bolt/studs.
Otherwise trying to get those two bolts into the holes after wards is almost impossible.
I like to use blue painters tape to out line the edges of the outer hinges on the fenders, prior to removing the hood.
That way when reinstalling you will be in the very same spot on the fenders.
I seem to recall last time I did it, you could get to the hood bolts from underneath, this allows you to align the hood forward and side to side with a helper up top (do NOT latch it) and you can tighten underneath.
If your not going with the exact same hood that you took off... it would be best to remove the three bolts per each side of the rear fenders & let the latches drop out of the way.
That way they do not interfere with allignment.
With a reinstall of the same hood as the original poster is doing, that proceedure ( dropping the hatches, wouldn't be necessary) .
