My 99 Coupe coolant runs between 185-200 degrees on the highway but runs at 220-230 around town and just idling. I have a low temp thermostat (180 I think) and the coolant level is OK. Any ideas???
you only have a low tstat if you put one in. You need to either get a hypertech or get someone to program it so it is set to utilize the tsat and kick on fans sooner. I am not a tech but hope this info gives you some help :seeya :chevy

If you replaced your thermostat with a lower one, you need to re-program the fans to come on at the lower temperature.
I replaced my thermostat with a 178° a year ago without re-programming. I had similar result to yours. Cartek did a tuning reprogramming a few weeks ago and now the car is between 181° and 185° all the time.
Turn the fans on sooner. I would think you could do this manuelly but I am not sure what wires to tap into. I have posted this question before with very little response. I see the ls1 camaro's guys have done this, so I know it can be done.
See a tuner with LS1 Edit and have them set the fans to come on sooner. I had mine done when heads and can were installed. With the stock thermostat my H2O temp never gets above 192. Oil maxes out at 207. :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:      :seeya
