Default C5 steering

1999 convertible - when I turn aggressively to the right, the front begins a drift to the left that I can correct by slowing down and steering in that direction. any ideas on what to look at? Thanks

Is it understeer?....front tires sliding?

Do you have the same tire compound on front and back?

Are the tires in front and back the same age?

How fast are you going when the front slips out?

Hi Steve - there was no tire slip - it felt like the wheels just pointed that way. The tires have about 3000 miles on them and are all the same brand, etc. I am wondering if worn ball joints could cause the wheels to stray like that.

I'm not a suspension expert, but I have had some understeer issues that have felt like that...some tires can get pretty hard with age or too many heat cycles for the compound type, and if they are overinflated they can let go with little or no noise or vibration and feel like how you described

but then again I guess it could be something broken....sorry, wish I could help more, I've learned to look at the simplest or most obvious things first on these cars, in my experience its usually the most obvious thing that seems too simple thats the problem

best of luck, some of the more experienced suspension guys will chime in soon I'm sure.

the fact that it happens in aggressive cornering and lets up when you slow down is what I keyed in on

what tires and tire pressure are you running?

Look at simple things like maybe excess greasy tire dressing on the front left tire getting up into the tread area...I'd look at stuff like that first.

and are the tire pressures and wear equal on both the right and left front tires?

Have you done a visual inspecton of the tie rods, ball joints, suspension bushings etc?...with the car jacked up is there excessive play in the wheel from side to side if you push and pull on the top of the tire, or excess play rotationally?

be carefull taking it to a tire or suspension place without inspecting it yourself....they love to replace stuff unecissarily.

How many miles on the car?
