Since my Z has been running 4 days now I seem to be getting new noises every day. My Z was always zipped up in a bag for winter where we get -40 C sometimes.. but with the car on jackstands and 75 completed I couldnt do it this year. So obviously stuff has dried out or whatever. I lubed all 4 bushings on the sway bars. Took them off and used aerosol white lithium grease. That seemed to work for 1/2 of driving now its back again. Smooth fresh roads zero chirping. Bumpy roads its constant, mostly sound from front right side. What else could have dried out during the last 2 months sitting??? I also (started yesterdar) get this weird noise coming from the engine area when I first start the car. Doesn't matter if the engines cold or hot. I will startthe car and 2 seconds laterI get a brief single nise which sorta sounds like a gut hitting a metal trash can lid with a hammer or rubber mallet. Strange I know. My Z is probably up for sale after all I have been through. I don't post often about tearing down my engine/car or pix of what Im doing. Theres enough guys that do that here. LOL
Try greasing and tightening the front and rear roof attachments.
I would start with the rear, making sure that the two rear roof pins are tight in their sockets prior to engaging the rear latch. You have to take the roof bow trim panel off to see the bolts for the pin sockets. The rear sockets should be adjusted up against the rear roof pins with the roof in place.
The front roof pins are vertical and go into plates at the windshield. These plates each have two 10mm bolts to allow the plates to be lowered. Loosten and lower one side of each plate at a time to preserve horizontal plate location. The 10mm bolts can be accesed by gently prying back the trim with a non-marring tool.
In my case I ended up lowering the front plates all the way and got rid of a rattle or clack that sounded like it came from the right rear or passenger door and had been bothering me for a couple of years. Along the way I took the passenger door apart three times looking in the wrong place.
