Default Replacing and Alternator

Gonna throw a new alternator in my 99 FRC. I'm pretty mechanically inclined as I've done all the wrenching on my drag cars back in the day.

Just wondering if I'm gonna trip across that specialty tool I won't have or the goofy part I should make sure I have in hand.

I did change both belts and the tensioner like 3 years ago and don't remember having an issue. The alternator functions fine...just REALLY loud. Thus I'd hate to get the thing torn apart...disabling the car..and being stuck waiting weeks for parts to show

Thanks!!

Easy job...sockets, socket driver. Suggest a breaker bar with socket to ease the tensioner to get the belt off.

Your 99 takes a different alternator then a newer C5. Hopefully some one will chime in on the difference. If you bought a newer one, your computer needs to be re-flashed by the dealer.

You should ask Napa what's the part number for a 2004. If they give you the same number, then there wrong. I believe the 99 has a lower amp output then the newer ones. Let me know what happens.

thanks,

FYI, I just replaced my 2001's original alternator (I believe it is 110amp) with a 140amp alternator from an 04 and have not had any problems.

BTW, just in case...make sure you disconnect the battery FIRST!
