Well I think I my need the dreaded headlight pop up motor replacement. We advice anyway. Turn on my lights. The left on did not pop up I played with the raise lower **** to see if it was jammed. I did get it to open up. But when it closed the motor kept turning with a nice grinding sound.
The motor assembly seems a little looser than the one that's working fine
Does the motor have a stop ? I know there are a few posts about the gears. And their replacement I would just like to know if the symptoms mentioned sounds like gear replacement or something else
Its the gear stripping. You can do a quick fix by un bolting the linkage from the motor on the inside and turning the gear 180 degrees with the manual **** and reattaching. I did it from underneath . Been working for couple years now. Go to the DIY thread and you can find pics of the motor etc. Good luck.

Really common problem with C5s. You can try the 180 degree fix or you can simply get a new gear and fix it. Brass gears are the preferred method and typically costs about $40-45 per side. You can also get the plastic replacement gear at various automotive stores (NAPA, etc) for about $15. Your choice. Just do a search, you'll find plently of info on this subject.
Thanks for the responses. took apart that bad boy last night and some of the teeth on the plastic gear are missing & ground down.. replacement parts on the way... I did read some past posts that the gear motor will stop automatically after reaching a certin torque pressure and that there are no stops that need to be set. is that correct? to double check, I just swap the gear, put it back together the same way it came out and Im good to go with no additional adjustments ?
Thanks
Thanks Again and I guess the question to ask is "why dont they (chevy) put a brass gear in the assembly in the first place. I had a 4x4 bronco that had a shifter fork in the transfer case that was plastic / nylon that needed replacement , the replacement part from ford was metal ... go figure

The answer is yes, nothing to set, just take care to put the gear in correctly. Torque pressure tells it when to stop. No need to adjust anything unless you feel like tinkering.

I've seen that posted before.
Good until it breaks again
