Default intake question

With a ls6 intake what size throttle body must be used for the intake? I have a ls1 intake with 78mm tb right now.

Depending on your other mods, you would be ok to stay with the 78mm tb.
the 78mm was used on all LS1 including Z06.

I did a port and polish on my TB to match the LS6 intake. It doesn't get better than a good 78mm unit for the 78mm intake opening IMO.

There has never been a Z06 with an LS1, at least not from the factory.

We would probably go with the factory 78mm. I don't feel like the power pick up on the larger TBs is worth the extra money. Wait to spend big money on intake and TB until you start looking at the FAST stuff.

well alot of peolpe are saying the ls6 intake is as good as a fast for my application anyway. i have a stock ls1 (1998 c5) and i installed a vararam vr-b2 cai with power duct, magna flow x-pipe and there best performance cat back ( not that its the best) and was just wanting some extra hp and alot of people are saying for what i have the ls6 intake would be just as good as a fast for the few add ons i have, and alot cheaper $. I am also going to be hooking up a nitrous outlet wet sytem with 100 shot. Do you guys think with the few add ons i have with the 100 shot ill get alittle above 400 rwhp?

It will be close. Id say 380-390 at the wheels. But that's just an estimate. The LS6 is pretty much as good as it gets with stock heads and cam etc. The FAST is useful with superchargers and better heads and internals.

I think he meant to say that the 78mm tb was used on all LS1 and Z06s

The FAST 92mm or 102mm intake is definitely an upgrade over the LS6 intake. I would not get it until you have an aftermarket set of heads and cam though. For bolt ons only, I would stick with the LS6.

The first round of mods on my 98 were borla cat-back, halltech cai, and ls-6 intake . After a mail order tune from e.c.s it put out 325 rwhp with auto trans. The ls-6 manifold with 78mm t.b worked better once i put A.M.racing long tube headers on then reached 340rwhp plus nice sound . Now no worries after install of A & A supercharger 520rwhp, a nice complete package . The manifold is just a small piece of the overall project

1Stock ls1 works the best with the ls6 intake.

No, but it would get the most out of it. If you are doing other mods, just wait and do the tune as the final touch.
