Default Where did you put your cutouts??

I received my DMH low profile cutouts and I will be putting them on this weekend...I'm wanting to put them up somewhere right after the LT's but where is the best location underneath the C5 for getting the best tuck?...my car already rides on the ground as it is. Where have you guys put yours up at? I have LT's/X/B&B bullet. Any info, pics or any tips for the install would be helpful too, thanks.

Installed Update:

The install went well yesterday and I wanted to let everyone know what I did and what I thought about it for people searching this thread in the future like I was doing with other threads. The whole install really was pretty easy with a lift...actually the 2 main problems that took the most time didn't involve the cutouts. It was getting the car high enough to lift it up, and then the unexpected issue of clearing out the X pipe as you'll see below.

Before pics:

After taking the X off to begin cutting/welding...I found that the cats had been blown through and were clogging up the whole X pipe. It was blocked from the cats to maybe 2 feet down all the way to the X....definitely was robbing power and sound from me! Good thing I was doing cutouts or I may not have known this for a long while. Could have been running rich...the car is getting tuned after the cam swap soon:

Mounted up:

Ran the wires up over the trans and through this where the parking brake wire is ran behind the passenger seat:

Switch mount. This wasn't my 1st choice, but was the first one of my choices that would work well. Some people say they want their switch hidden but I personally didn't care for hiding my cutout switch and I like the convenience of it being out of the way of my arm, but yet right there for easy opening:

These cutouts were made very well and I didn't have any problem with the DMH's. My only complaint would just be a C5 thing and I bought these without research and expected to run them right after the headers like I wanted to do on my old TA...but the space ONLY allows putting them after the X...which was kind of disappointing since I wanted it to be able to be obnoxiously loud when open since I have the option of closing it up to keep quiet. Also I thought my B&B had a good sound before....but now I'm in love after clearing out the cats that were all blown out in the X...I now get to hear what the B&B is ACTUALLY supposed to sound like. It is quite a bit louder and sounds so much better than before. I gained more satisfaction from the difference in the B&B after vs before compared to the cutouts being open vs closed. There is a difference in sound but it isn't the crazy difference I've been used to with cutouts before, but that's just due to the C5 only letting you put them that far back. I'm putting in a cam soon also that I've got sitting here and that should make the whole thing sound a lot meaner too and I bought the cutouts for use with the cam and not just on a stock LS1, I just got around to installing the cutouts first is all...so I just have to wait and see how this will sound after the cam...I'm sure it will be pretty mean!

Okay, with some searching I'm thinking theres no room before the X like I originally wanted and I'll have to mount them up after the X under the tranny. Are there any problems with the cutouts being open right under the trans?

It'll get the transmission dirty. I've had mine there for a couple years and haven't had any issues.

You would get a check engine light every time you open or close them if they are before any of the sensors. right before or after the H or X should be good.

So since there really is only one good spot to put the cutouts, the only way to try and avoid this would be to weld them up to where they can aim down slightly rather than pointing straight back or level with the bottom of the car in other words?

Down would be better I would think, dunno how much though.

Coilovers would be another option if you'd be using them a lot.

I'll get my pics up in a week, there was a change of plans and I'm going to do the cutouts install on my friends lift next Sunday (12th) with installing my 233/239 cam later that week....should be fun!

Here's the thread those came from, a little more detail on the actuators. Haven't yet run across how it turned out.

Mine are pretty standard cutouts, nothing fancy. Been like that 10 years or so now. I wrapped the center portion of my spring in that heavy foil-coated fiberglass heatwrap as a measure of safety but no issues. It's a Random Tech 3" X-pipe with high-flow cats and some 3" dynomax bullets added to tame the sound slightly since I have the cutouts open 99% of the time.
