Default Help w/ Pads & Rotors

Just pick up my first C5 (2004 Vert). I hear an annoying squeal when applying brakes. The car has 46000 on the clock and I'm guessing original rotors. Not sure about pads (no documented history).

Questions:

1) How do you check pad wear on these cars?
2) If pads are shot, experience tells me to throw out the rotors as well. If this is the case, can anyone recommend a reasonably priced pad and rotor combo?

I've had a number of cars with and without slotted and drilled rotors. The way I drive, I can't discern any significant difference so I don't really want or need a slotted or drilled set but if there's a quality discount set out there, please advise.

Thanks!https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...es/cheers2.gif

NAPA rotors are good and pretty cheap. Pads really depend on personal preference in many respects. If you are a gentle driver and don't like dirty wheels I would suggest the EBC ceramic pads, if you are agressive with braking and like a firm feeling then look at Hawk pads and maybe SS lines. However there is nothing wrong with OEM Z06 pads either.
Checking the pad wear is pretty easy but does require wheel removal. You can look through the inspection area of the caliper but I like to loosen one caliper retaining bolt and roll the caliper up to actually look at the pads to see how much material is left and also see if the pads are wearing evenly.
Enjoy the new to you vert and don't forget to wave.

I just went with summit racing cross drilled/slotted rotors and hawk pads.. So far i have about 600 miles on the combo and i love them!

Rotors were like 45 bucks a side.. Great deal..

I went with the Auto Zone rotors and pads. They work just fine.

If the rotors are still smooth , I just hang pads.

Thanks gents.

How about a source for SS lines while we're at it?
