last night I ran a hot wire from the battery to the plug for the motor
touched it on both the red and black wire it did not move the motor
that must mean the motor is bad. now what? I think the column has to come out. does the seal in the firewall have to be replaced or can it be re used. thanks Jim

Did you also ground the other lead at the same time? If not, when you unplugged the connector, you also unplugged the ground to complete the circuit.
Test this way:
B+ (hot) to red pin first
Connect other pin to ground. Do both of these things together.
After connecting B+, when you then touch/connect the ground, the motor should run. Reverse the leads and the motor should run the opposite direction.
If you do remove the column assembly, as far as I know the firewall seal/boot does not have to be replaced. You will probably want to smear a little silicone grease or lithium white-lube where the shaft passes through it to prevent any noise (groan) that was a common complaint on earlier C5s.
Thank you. I did not ground the black wire when I put power to the red
wire or ground to red when I powered up the black wire . but I will
tommorow. I think that is what you mean. like I said the motor turns over very hard. thanks again for your help. P.S.the red car has none of these problems. it sits for weeks and always starts right up. I shouldn't

When you say "the motor turns over very hard" I take it you mean when you used your drill on the cable end? If so, remember that the motor uses reduction gears inside that housing it's in to send power to the cable. It multiplies the torque of the motor. When you try to spin the cable manually using the cable to spin the motor your are doing the opposite and it SHOULD be much harder to spin the motor manually.
I did what you said , ground and a hot wire. nothing works.
I see what you mean about the gear reduction. It makes sense.
but it still doesen't work. I plan on taking it to carlisle next week.
I'am going to try to sell it I guess. not a good time to sell anything.
thanks for your help. I bought a motor for it last week(telescope drive motor)
,
I got a new drive motor yesterday. took everything apart and managed to get the old motor out without out taking the column out. the red wire was burnt off where the wire comes out of the motor. the wires were lmed between the bracket and the motor. got it all back together
and everything seems to work fine.
