I am considering the FLP package with a mild exhaust, maybe a Corsa Touring with X pipe, and was wondering what the gains are. What will it sound like? I want it to sound more exotic but don't want to shake up the neighborhood. Is performance gains noticible (SOTP) or only on Dyno?
Do I need to replace plugs wires or anything else? More heat in the cabin? Louder inside or just outside? Will my wife hear me comming down the street? She already thinks the car, with stock exhaust is loud???
Hey Eric...I used to live in Holbrook / Patchogue.! You know your not far at all from some great C5 Tuners on the East Coast..the Vette Doctors in Amityville and THEY will steer you right!! :yesnod:
In my opinion there are NO cons to the headers and exhaust. It will free up power that is just waiting to get out !:D I chose the TPIS Long Tubes and Corsa Indys w/off road x-pipe and ...I pulled all 4 cats. The car sounds mean and nasty at WOT and quiet when cruising. There is a MUCH better throttle response ..and the rpms come up faster...so there IS a SOTP difference.
P.S. If your wife thinks the stock system is loud ..that is unfortunate. ANY header sytem you install will make the car louder...NOT LOUD but louder and clearer. If you would like to see what the complete system looks like installed..check out my homepage for full install pics..:D
Hi Eric, agree completely with vstella. I went with the FLPs as well and I also have the Corsa Tourings on my '98. I believe the sound to be much improved...a little deeper on the outside and little/no difference on the inside. Under acceleration it's a little louder. There is no necessity for you to consider or be concerned about the other questions you had...just bolt 'em in and enjoy. As for what your wife will think, this is something we all have to learn to deal with. Good luck with your choices.
Joe
I have TPIS longtubes, x-pipe and corsa touring with the stock cats. The car sounds much better, but is not much louder than stock unless at wot. The performance gain was significant, really woke the car up in the higher rpm's and the engine revs much better when downshifting. Much more fun to drive. I have not noticed any significant difference in engine/oil temps.
If your wife is concerned about the noise, keep the stock cats and go with a mild exhaust like the corsa touring.
Eric, I have to agree with these guys. I have the FLP's and love 'em. It's a bit louder but not nearly as much as I thought it would be. I'm currently running the hi-flow cats and MagnaFlow catback. Sound and performance are nicely enhanced. Here's all you need to solve both your problems.
1) Buy and install FLP's on the vette.
2) Buy and install earplugs on the wife.
