Before opening the dash back up and getting at the radio i wanted to see if anybody else had experienced this. There is a noise coming from the upper drivers side dash that sound's like interference on a radio/CB. Though it is not coming from the radio speakers. It is happening constantly even when the vehicle is off. It does stop when you disconnect the battery, but does not fix the problem. Also when the key is inserted it crackles/makes noise from the same area. So im thinking a grounding issue. Any help or thoughts on the issue would be appricated.
With the battery connected, try pulling fuses/relays that would power that area and see if you can make it stop. That would help to better locate the source. Might be able to use an auto stethoscope to help also. Removing the knee bolster should help access. I just removed mind for the hazard switch. Will require console removal first though.
I plan to shortly post pictures on how to remove the bolster since it did come come off exactly as I expected, but is easy once you get to that point.
PS: Just in case you have a short of some kind, I would not leave the battery connected until you resolve the issue. You don't want to have a fire or casue any additional issues.
I am having this same problem. It is so intermittant that it is hard to track. Sometimes all is quiet until you open the door. Other times just starts when driving. Was thinking a ground. Took apart and cleaned the ground plugs on each side of frame right behind headlights. Seems to be different but not gone. I am thinking of just cutting the plug off and combining the wires into one ground direct to the frame. Meanwhile I'm going to look around to see what other people suggest. Glad to see I'm not the only one. Usually the dealer only says"never seen that".
Thanks for the responses yall. I have a theroy on what it might be i just gotta find the time to work on it.

Good luck searching if you find anything let me know. I searched online for about 2 hrs yesterday and found nothing, even the same issue on other cars . If i find the problem ill let you know.
Ok i finaly got some time to work on the problem. I have pulled the radio out of the car (aftermarket that i instaled). Just to make sure it had nothing to do with my work, And found nothing.
I have narrowed the issue down it seems to change/initiate/stop the sound anytime the DIC(driver information center)/door sensor is activated. I.E when you insert the key and it beeps, or when you hit reset on the DIC, or the hatch/door is ajar. The sound seems to be comming from the HUD (heads up display) exactly where the sound comes from when it beeps. I am currently debating if i have the guts to take the dash pad off to have a look. If i do i will update.
I am still looking for any help with this issue. Maby info on how the DIC works or what componants makes it up, same with the system that controls the door/safty sensors if there not related.
I have norrowed the noise cause to circuit 25 in the fuse box behind the footwell on the passenger side. (Body Control Module-Ignition 1, Instument Panel Control). Of course with this fuse pulled the car will not run. The noise stops when you pull the fuse. starts immediately when you insert it. Just ordered 3 book service manual online will be back if I can track this down. Dealer here useless. For $100 an hour they will look for it. They have no idea. "Haven't seen this before". For $100 an hour they should KNOW what it wrong with it. What? I have to pay to train your techs? Anybody got any ideas?

I feel ya on the dealer dimwits. Just b/c your certified dosent mean you have real world experience. And as soon as any vendor/mechanic hears Corvette your gonna get charged as much as they can scam you for. Just look at the prices of some of the after market parts that are hundreds of dollars more then comparable products for other GM cars.
I have not found the problem yet eathier but i have found a temp band aid to stop the noise. The speaker for the system is on the back of the Gauge cluster. For now until i can figure it out i am going to disable the speaker by taking off one of the connection's. The down side to this is that there will not be any warning sound if the lights are left on among other things. Another thought i had was that it's one of the sensors that is part of this system or the BCM its self. There is good info on this thread ( http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...door-open.html ) about the system though it is not related to the problem.
Thanks for the info on the speaker/chime on back of guage cluster. The buzzer for the headlights has not worked for some time now. Noticed that buzzer for leaving key in ignition not working either. Will try your fix until I get service manual I just ordered. I'm wondering if problem is with buzzer itself or relay that controls it. Noise does stop completely when you take key and get out of car. Doesn't run battery down. Will post as I go.

Are u sure the noise stops? Mine dosent thats actualy how i first noticed it i was walking up to my car and it was buzzing. As far as battery drain. It dosent drain to bad, ive left it over night and been able to start the car easily. But i have also been disconnecting my battery every time i park it overnight just incase. It dose fine during the day running around. I actually just got done pulling the wire for the speaker as of this post. Ill let you know if there is any other problems that arise by disconnecting the speaker.
Finally took the dash off and removed the instument cluster. I disconnected the speaker/chime thing and my noise is gone. It seems parts are not available and the only people that repair these units I can find does not work on stuff this old. 2000 model year. Think I can live without the chimes.
Corvette Manual was a big help. Thought I might get the cluster out without removing the dash as they suggested but wouldn't work. At least the buzzing is gone.

I won't lie i did leave the headlights on one time so far but cool thing was the car turnd them off for me, i came out and my headlights were still poped up but not on. I got in started the car fliped them off then back on to check function, nice feature. I might haft to use the twilight feature now .
