i thought that was for the full exhaust, headers and all, and i was going to say thats a good price.
i did my own, and the headers/downpipe area were somewhat of a pain, but the catback?? that took me under an hour in just my garage! maybe he thought you were talking full exhaust. trying to give them the benefit of the doubt. if they knew it was just cat back, i wouldnt take it to them out of spite. corvette tax collector meet corvette owner refusal to be bent over.
I prefer a prefer a performance shop one in general to do any type of work that's need on my Z06
I guess I look at like this someone else washing my car
That's not happeningv

Okay, but that didn't answer my question of what's wrong with taking a corvette to a muffler shop.
Sir if you want to take your car to a muffler then please feel free to do so
I did. And my car didn't explode.
You went out of your way to post in somebody's 3 week old thread questioning their choice in shop but have no justification for your reason other than you "prefer a performance shop"..... well good for you.
An exhaust is just a bunch of metal pipes, it isn't rocket surgery.

The only real concern I would have about a "general" muffler shop would be the correct raising of the car without damage. MOST "general" muffler (or repair) shops are not aware or conscious about the danger of body damage on C5s. I've seen it either happen, or almost happen too many times.

The pipe work itself is pretty straight-forward.
Total agreement. Luckily, I have a local shop that specializes in Vettes and have great prices and exceptional work.

Make sure they know how to properly lift it... You really need to do this any time you take your car anywhere for work (even "performance shops")
Once it's in the air pipes are pipes. There's nothing unique about the rear section of a C5 Corvette's exhaust. I wouldn't let a muffler shop do a header install for me but from the mid pipe back... absolutely. It's ridiculously simple.
And a car is just a car.... The corvette stands alone... I was once told long ago by a senior member on here that if I had thin skin the forum was not going to be for me if someone post a commit then expect someone to give thief opinion

you put this thing on a pedestal a little too much. if a c5 broke your bank, you shouldnt have bought it, true for any car, but the fact is a muffler is a muffler. ours werent forged from metal from an alien planet or anything.
that said i took mine to a total hillbilly muffler shop in Mississippi as I was driving through there after installing my headers/xpipe/catback in my garage. drove it onto their lift myself and they were done in 5 minutes.

shockingly enough, the car hasnt caught on fire
I once took my car to have the rims and tires changed on it... Before I could get out of my car the guy ask me sir would u mind popping the trunk
And the hood for I thought it was kinda strange but I did as I was asked then he says make sure you leave the windows down.. Anyway I asked the tech what gives man he provided to tell me about pressure relief spots on the car.. According to him you take a chance in cracking the front and rear glass in the car he apparently learned this the hard way with that being said my friend I do not hold my car on some high pedestal but after owning four I've learned the ins and outs of the C5
It's all good brother
I trust no one around my car people don't give a crap about anything that someone else owns I've got a guy here in Texas that I take my Z to... And yea your prolly right this one is kinda special to me it's the first one that I have dumped a lot of cash into

dont get me wrong im the same way. i tell people i'd rather do it myself twice - doing it once and breaking it, then learning and doing it again. in the last 5 years im a lawsuit and ~$8000 into work either not even started or done wrong that i was billed for. was mostly while i was overseas so when they said they were done, i naively trusted them as they were "The best shop in the area."
BUT.. a muffler is one thing i can trust somebody to do a quick mig on for me
