I purchased a C5 vette from maroone ford auto nation [certified] 2003 50th anniversary vette, And Its only been 9 days comes with 2 month warranty but I noticed when im in park and or driving and stomp on the acceleration I hear a weird screech noise as if was a belt problem took it to Chevrolet dealer they looked at it and said nothing was wrong..... says had too much armoral in engine so caused squeaky noise but apparently it is still making the noise. It took them 5 damn hours to tell me it was armoral but I know it is something else of concern no engine lights or anything is on. and also when I switch the ac on and off its as if I hear a static charge from the radio let me know what you think please!!!!!!
If someone sprayed some sort of protectant and got it in the pulleys and belts, it will slip.
Not sure what will clean that crap out of there.
I'd try purple cleaner or maybe brake clean.
Take a quick look and see if the bottom pulley looks to have a wobble.
If it does, it should be replaced. I've heard GM says some wobble is normal, but I don't buy it. Wobble means the outer pulley has shifted from the hub.
Mine was bad and the crap place I bought my car from basically told me tough luck.
Probably because it's expensive labor-wise to change.
if it were me, I would have the dealer check the Harmonic balancer. When you accelerate quickly there is a great amount of torque on the HB. I would look at the runout on the pulley and see if the belt is completely on.
OK, thanks I will have the dealer look at the harmonic balancer when I get the chance, yep it is when I accelerate hard it whines pretty loud sounds like a supercharger lol. and or when parked and stomp on it same result a loud whine! noise and also when i turn car on sounds like their is a ground feed problem radio is static then once A/C is turned on it goes away.
A whine like that description hardly sounds like it'd be a belt slipping. There'd be smoke coming off it if it was that loud. Maybe an accessory bearing is failing or auto trans have been known to whine like that, usually it's only under load though.
oh ok thank you, ya well its not real loud just hear a whining noise oh so auto is known to have a whining sounds interesting lol should I be concerned or no? I mean their no engine lights on or anything
The harmonic dampener is the "bottom pulley" I was talking about.
You can look at that yourself.
Open the hood and start the engine and look down from the passenger side.
Man, I need to clean my engine compartment up.
Looks like the dampener does not wobble. That's good.
I'm not sure if the engine noise is normal or not.
When I bought my car, it had an aftermarket open exhaust, so all I really hear is exhaust sound.
Hopefully someone else will comment on the engine sound.
To me, it sounds a bit noisy, but it could be the camera picking up those frequencies.
If it does have excessive ticking, I'd first change out the oil and then start looking further into it.
One thing you can do, is drive around to some different dealers that happen to have a C5 and ask to look at what they have.
Start the engine and see if it sounds like yours.

yeah those engines will shake a little bit. Mine feels like it has a cam once in a while. As far as the whine, I can't help you. I am chasing the same issue. Mine happends when I hit the gas at any level. I am half way through changing all the pullies.
If you want to elimiate the noise that may be caused by a chemical being sprayed, try spraying the pulleys and belts with Gunk, leave it set for maybe 20 minutes and then high power spray the, (not with a power washer), the Gunk off. Leave dry for a few hours and then try again. If it stiil squeals, it may be a myriad of things. Also, to bypass using the Gunk, get some belt dressing and try that. It's 'old school', but it may work.
oh ok thanks everyone ya, I must not be the only one that does have that problem im sure its nothing serious just belt slipping or something have two month warranty so taking to dealer again on tues hopefully.
