High performance cats?
Assuming that more than one manufacture does make a high performance cat for the C5, what do you all like best. The way my car is set up now (see signature), I really like the sound. Will changing to a high performance cat change the sound i.e.: make it louder. My guess is yes. Like everybody else on this forum, I'm just trying to squeeze a few extra ft. lbs. of torque and HP out of the LS1. Thanks.

As a suggestion, copy your replies to word, run them through spell/grammar check, then paste the corrected version back into the reply box. Again, this is just a suggestion.
Well, anybody else have an input or experiences?

Having looked at your sig, I don't think you will gain but a few ponies with hi flow cats. I personally don't think it's worth the cost and install price. Plus, there is an issue with changing the original cats, on a road car where they are still functioning, is not legal. I know a lot of folks do it without a problem as they encounter 'damage' to them along the way;) but, it's just something to think about. On a modified head/cam car or a larger motor, you may see more gains with the hi flo cats.
I'd go the header route before I did the cats, though it is more expensive, you'd see much better gains.
Hope this helps.:)

Turning to the headers, yes, I do want a set of B&B shorties in a bad way. However, seeings how my car is Powerloaded (which I LOVE, by the way) and given Steve's medical problems, getting my Powerloader reprogrammed for the headers might be difficult. Once Steve is "up to speed," I'll consider ordering a set of shorties from you.

We've supplied the random cats to some highly modified motor customers, but, haven't seen anyone report a very big gain from just those cats on a lightly modded motor with an intake and the like.
Shorties will net you some hp gains and also save you some weight. For example, the B&B's are 16 lbs lighter than the stock manifolds on the Z06. 16 pounds is a benefit to some degree.
I'll mention this as well, since you even thought about a cat change, how about a long tube header instead? Still keeping the original stock cats in place of course. You'd gain more in hp/tq so that the weight difference on a long versus short tube would be more than overturned by the power gains. Just a thought. Install is 2 hours @ $65-80 for the shorites. Figure 5-6 @$65-80 on a long tube, unless the shop has a flat rate on short and long tube headers for the C5.
If it's that you want bolt on, bolt off, lower weight with a worthy gain, then the B&B's in stainless are an attractive option.
If you want to give me a shout to talk about either, just call me.:)

mods( head and cam, nitrous, supercharger, big cubic inch motor).
If headers are a mod in the near future, we would recommend the FLP header system. These long tube headers come with hi-flow cats and off road pipes and also an x pipe. The system is complete from the headers to the exhaust flanges, they bolt up to any exhaust system you are using. Your stock manifolds, cats and intermediate pipe are removed completely w/ no cutting or modifying. You can always reinstall the stock stuff later if needed. FLPs system is completely jet hot coated for minimal heat transfer as well. If you are considering headers for more power, we would not suggest shorties. They produce almost no power and for the 900-1000.00 spent for shorties, its alot of money for little gain. Also, we would not recommend hi-flow cats by themselves for good gains, it will be a minimal gain at best. Yes, the FLP's are more expensive, but they will give you good gains. Fit and finish is the best we have seen so far.
Shorties will run apprx 950-1050, Random hi-flow cats will run 350-450.00. For that kind of money, you can have the best header system available that will give you the most gain available. Im not trying to make a sale here, I dont want you to spend on parts that will give you little gain for the buck...
Heres pics of the system I speak of:

Unfortunately, as I mentioned earlier, getting my Powerloader reprogrammed for the headers might be a PIA. Maybe this is a good thing?
