Fuel System issues
After many searches on this forum and trying to get an understanding of how the system operates I now have that understanding.
Thanks to all that have contributed with that information.
My system issues were
1- Gauge going to E within an hour after leaving with a full tank.
2- If I stopped to refill after driving for a couple of hours, the
tank would not take fuel. I had to trickle it in for 10 minutes or more.
3- While driving HPDE at a race track with less than 1/2 a tank the
engine would sputter on prolonged right turns as if running
out of fuel.
The problem was a clogged jet pump in the right tank.
When the jet pump is not functioning the fuel in the right tank does not get used therefore causing the computer to set the fuel warning.
When trying to refill the tanks the Vaper Vent Valve on the right tank would remain closed because that tank was still full, therefore not letting the sysem vent the fumes and air causing the problem of not being able to accept fuel.
The car would be running out of fuel on the right turns because the left tank was near empty and the right tank still had fuel that could not be used.
It is amazing that I never ran out of fuel on the highway. I guess I never let it get that low.
After cleaning out the jet pump and replacing both filters I just returned from a 900 mile trip and the system worked great.
I hope this info can help someone else.
