Default Generator Whine

I had the generator off the car and when I put it back on and started the car it was whining quite a bit. After a few minutes it got really hot. Does anyone have any idea why that may be happening? Note: when I disconnected the nut on the back the inner nut came off as well and it doesn't quite seem like it's going back in correctly. Could this cause it to have these issues and if so what's the fix?

Thanks in advance.

I think you posted in the wrong forum. All C5's have alternators, not generators. Maybe you meant to post in C1, C2 or C3.

Trouble shooting an oil leak with my aftermarket valve covers. Easier to access the front of the Driver's side with Gen/Alt out of the way. I needed to clean that part of head so I can see an oil leak if it occurs again.

Any thoughts on the Gen/Alt issue?
